Last month, BRMi employees gathered their older, idle laptops and tablets to donate to school-age children in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area (DMV). Many school districts in the DMV moved to online learning with the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders. The educational challenges created by the pandemic highlights the vast digital divide in communities around the DMV. The online switch resulted in some of the most economically distressed school-age kids not being able to learn for lack of home access to the online platforms.
BRMi teamed with a local, grassroots, community-led effort, the DC Mutual Aid Network, to get personal computers into the hands of those who need them. The organization has volunteers working to tune up these older computers and make them online ready for learning. Thanks to all for your generosity!
