We rely on our IT staff to provide seamless interoperability as we work remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. Workers across the country are adopting new work patterns using communications tools that may have been previously unfamiliar to them. They expect the tools, networks, and support services to all function in harmony so that they may continue to perform their jobs. The pressure on IT staff to deliver requested capabilities has rarely been higher.

We may have taken for granted how well our technologists perform under normal circumstances because everything they did to support us had become quite routine. Services, networks, secure access, data centers, and help desks were all available a high percentage of the time. Meeting work requirements through the pandemic requires all of those capabilities to continue with a surge of new requirements associated with the greater than normal number of remote employees working in often unfamiliar ways.

Now is a good time to acknowledge how well the IT staff on the front lines are doing to enable the continued delivery of services during this crisis. We should recognize the continuous value that they provide our organizations and how well they have stepped up to meet the demands we’ve placed on them in this “new normal”. Take a minute to tell them how much you appreciate their efforts.
